1. Intercultural Learning
At the German School of Bucharest (DSBU) children of various nationalities learn together. The school supports the programme of a contact school and is a place for intercultural exchange. In our school children experience that the different origin of each individual is of benefit to all. They learn openness and tolerance as well as to associate in a respectful and tolerant manner.
Our aim is to arouse a liberal-democratic attitude and to guide them to have natural relations with people of different social and cultural origin.
2. Lessons in accordance with the German curriculum by native language teachers
The curriculum of the State Baden-Wuerttemberg is the basis for the lessons at the German School Bucharest. The lessons are solely held by native language teachers. Within the framework of a contact school Rumanian as an additional language is taught. Children of Rumanian nationality are supported in their native language and conception and children of German or another nationality learn in lessons the Rumanian language and become familiar with the Rumanian culture. As from first grade all children have English lessons.
3. Pupil-centred lessons and holistic learning
The child is the focal point of attention in the educational and teaching programme of the German School Bucharest. All educational and pedagogical processes build on the horizon of knowledge and experience of the child and broaden it. The lessons are based on descriptiveness, closeness to life and reference to action as well as setting tasks and manifold forms of learning suitable for children.
Children learn at best if they are approached as human being, i.e. with all their talents, interests and senses as well as their feelings. We attach particular importance to integral learning, learning with “mind, heart and hand”.
4. Open lessons and actively discovering learning
The aim of the lessons at the German School Bucharest is to teach the children independence and to take over responsibility for their learning. Modern teaching forms like weekly schedules and individualised instruction are integral part of day-to-day teaching. Solutions for learning and problem tasks are elaborated by the children themselves with the help of the female teachers by actively discovering learning. The children have the opportunity to make manifold experiences through the openness of the school and regular course-related excursions.
5. Interrelated tuition

The lessons at the German School Bucharest take place in small interrelated classes. School beginners learn in the first and second form from each other and together. In higher classes the pupils also learn in interrelated groups. By means of individualised instruction and differentiation each child is met at its level. Its abilities are nurtured and learning difficulties are dealt with individually.
6. Creativity, musical and physical education
The furtherance of creativity and creative abilities is of particular importance. In the courses art and music as well as in the after-school programme, the artistic and musical abilities of the children are nurtured. On a regular basis school festivals are organised where the children can perform small plays, make music, recite a poem or dance.
The urge for exercise is taken into account in physical education and in the after-school programme. In a teaching unit within the physical education course as well as in after-school courses the children learn various disciplines.
